they finally answer, it's 50/50 that they will be able to help you anyhow.

Yes, take the network cable from the back of your computer, and plug it into
the modem. You will probably have to reset your computers IP address, and if
you aren't sure how to do that, simply reboot the computer. Then as Donald
says, type http://192.168.1.1/ or http://192.168.0.1/ in your browser,
whichever one works. http://192.168.0.1/ is most common, but one of the
routers I was playing with actually used http://192.168.1.1/  for some
reason.  This should cause the modem setup page to appear, and you can look
at the different menu options to see what is available. About the only thing
you want to do is look at the firewall settings (if there are any). I
personally completely disable it, but others here may advise otherwise.
Since you are behind a router, that does give some protection against
malicious incoming connections.
