I am going to guess by RAID-2 you really meant RAID-1 RAID-2 is a very ancient raid that basically serves no purpose in todays market (neither do RAID-3 or RAID-4) They came from the days when drives were much more expensive. Today it's basically RAID-0, RAID-1, or RAID-5. There are highend setups where you might use RAID3+RAID5 or 3+1 or 10/0+1, however most controllers are built around 0,1 and 5.

If it's not his software, I see no reason to dismiss hardware as an item to evaluate.
