Not to mention that custom modifications that do not add tags, players won't
find out about until they connect to the server.

No server op in their right mind would voluntarily add tags.

If there was one list of servers rather than the Internet list and the
"Black list", I'd add every custom game play change I do to the sv_tags. I
think it would actually help attract players if done right.

Once again, please move the new filter options to the internet tab and
remove the custom tab.

Right now I can turn my server into instagib deathmatch and I'll be on the
vanilla internet list without having to force my way there.

Subject: Re: [hlds] Why sv_tags wont work.

"The concept is similar to web page metatags, where server operators can
specify descriptive tags in any manner, and clients can search for servers
by specifying the tags they're interested in."

I hope Valve realizes that server operators does not have any incentive
to specify descriptive tags as long as they are penalized by having
their servers delisted from the Internet tab if they do so.

We run standard servers but have chosen not to tag our servers even
though we believe that it would have assisted players that is actively
searching to find our servers.

The penalty for a standard vanilla gameplay server to not be on the
Internet tab is just far to great in terms of less exposure.
