OK, here's a simple idea. The original Half-Life Deathmatch game must be pretty cheap to buy, even in Argentina. Why don't you provide or advertise an easy way for your gamers to buy the game. If they don't have international credit cards, perhaps PayPal tied to a local bank account could work. Perhaps you could make other payment arrangements with Valve. If you explain what you are trying to accomplish, hopefully Valve will cooperate. Then, start posting on your cracked server the date and reasons why it will be changing to a fully legit server. Give plenty of advance notice, even though none is really necessary. Then when that date arrives, make the change. You may initially have a very small handful of players. But online computer gaming is extremely addictive. I'm currently in rehab myself. I'll bet with time, your legitimate community will grow. At least you'll know that you did the right thing and tried to decrease piracy in your country.
I do understand that you're facing a huge cultural and socioeconomic difference in Argentina. Some of the responses on this forum may have sounded unsympathetic, but I don't think they were truly "prejudiced". When it comes to issues of honesty, regardless of a person's good intentions, answers tend to be black and white, with no gray zone. My suggestion may not work. You're currently operating in a "black" zone. Give ample notice on your server, educate your gamers and perhaps you'll be surprised at the numbers that will eventually buy the game. Good luck! -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Nevermore Sent: Tuesday, October 28, 2008 10:21 AM To: Half-Life dedicated Win32 server mailing list Subject: Re: [hlds] help !!! I exposed the situation of my country about piracy and asked for any idea to solve the problem. El mar, 28-10-2008 a las 10:00 -0600, Michael R.
