-- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Sorry if any confusion, I was _only_ relating the kernel settings to the comment earlier about comparing server fps, not cpu, meaning you will get a lower max fps, and thats not an issue with valve (or with Linux, as you could recompile or a use a different dist/kernel).
The main problem here, is that whilst all the comments are extremely valid, it's unlikely that actually anything will get done, unless people provide a standard set of figures and testing that Valve can't ignore. If people post their specs, settings and then maybe a graph of cpu usage (maybe on different maps and player numbers), then I think it may be easier for either a trend to be seen, or Valve to realise there is actually a problem. As it is, its hard to pluck anything concrete out (apart from people believe there's a problem, but its not enough really no matter how true it is without something more specific provided to them) Ian > > > If the kernel was indeed running at a lower freq. then you would see > > less CPU usage as higher fps kernels use an extra 2%-5% just on the > > extra overhead let alone the fact the server is doing more to get the > > higher fps. > > > > I recently moved a customers AMD64 3200 from windows to Linux. > > Previously they had a 40 man server.
