I spoke to Chet Faliszek at Eurogamer about this. There will not be dedicated servers that the public can run in the beta. As some of you may know Valve are intending to introduce some sort of match making system - I was told this will run on their own servers and these will be the only servers available for the beta. I asked how it would be possible to have competitive matches in the beta if you don't own the server and hence can't set the password - I didn't get a very clear response but I got the impression it would not be possible. Fortunately there *will *be dedicated servers for the full launch, however these will not be able to take part in the match making system; that will continue to run on Valve's servers only. Bear in mind that this was already over a month ago I was told this, things change, my memory may have failed, I may have misheard etc. But I thought I should share.
