Question, aren't there some works that call for "hand stopping" which require switching from "stopped notes" to "open notes" in way that makes it hard to use and remove a stopping mute?

I don't in fact own a stopping mute, non-transposing or otherwise, and have never felt the need to go out and buy one. But there are cases when one is needed, for instance if you are using a single Bb horn and the hand doesn't stop a convenient semitone.
