I listened to it, and my first reaction is mixed. I can recognize the  
tune because of the first 5+5 notes, which are lower, while it becomes  
much less clear thereafter. Even so, while I can tell different  
pitches apart, the intervals do not "sound right", and I'd say that  
the rhythm has a role in this recognition.

I also noted that the frequency I hear less is not the highest, but  
the second-highest of the melody.  That seems strange to me.

Altogether, my feeling are that this example confirms what was already  
said: you can somehow distinguish different frequencies, but  
perception of the intervals is altered.
