Maybe this is a radical, heretical idea with no foundation in chemistry, physics, or acoustics, but I suspect Myron Bloom's marvelous 8D sound would have come through pretty much the same even if Myron had been playing on the shiniest, most gleaming, highly polished, brilliantly lacquer-coated 8D you ever saw.

Myron Bloom was the principal horn in Clevland at the time and he had a stripped version 8D that sounded marvelous.
