"The most important factor is what pleases the user." Yes. And as for
me as a user, what pleases me continues to evolve over time. When I
first got my DJ30 I was very impressed of its output using HP driver
with custom profiles created for the PP+ photo satin paper. I
religiously create custom profiles for any printer I own from a horde
of Epsons to my very first HP printer which is the DJ30.

Subsequently I tried to make use of a large stock of papers I used on
my Epsons and was unable to create a satisfactory profile for a
micro-porous paper. This forced me to look for a RIP solution and I
found one that allowed me to get amazing results.

So I thought since this RIP works so well, let's try to use it on the
HP PP+ photo satin as well, and to my amazement the output from the HP
driver paled by comparison.

This leads me to another observation, or question, which I hope
someone in the forum can help answer. It appears the RIP's stochastic
screening does something that allows much superior tonal separation
than the driver's dithering engine with both using the same
spectro-based printer profiling solution. The RIP's output appears a
bit grainier under a loupe and a good pair of reading glasses, but its
tonal separation is breathtaking as compared to the driver's output
which seems to have a veil over it when compared side by side.

Today, after almost 9 months of using the RIP, I felt urged to create
a driver based profile for a specific application and again the veiled
look of the print forced me to abandon the effort and just stick to
the RIP.

And "saturated green" ... yes, I'm glad my RIP handles it also very
well, as well as its ability to render shadow detail and out-of-gamut
colors.

As an aside, I wonder what the wait on the DJ130 encouraged by another
member is about  :)  ... a pigmented version of DJ130?
