Hmmm, I see from the parts list this is a Q1247-60023, "Automatic Roll
Replacement Kit" which includes both the powered bracket and the back feed
portion. I do not recall if the NR came with the standard cleanout (I
presume with only the sheet feed slot?), does anyone else remember? If so, I
could rummage around and try to find it. Still, I would think that I could
use the upper sheet feed slot properly without the power. After all, I did
say I succeeded in inserting and printing on cut off sheets through the
upper rear slot. Grrrr.

Anybody taken one of these apart? If it's dead anyway, and there's no "core
charge" for giving them a dead part, I may just try to replace the bloody
fuse myself.

BTW, should I contact HP about it or the vendor that sold us the printer?
The vendor is only about 100 miles away.

Thanks for the advice.
