After 3 days ferreting around various forums I had
this from HP, and.... guess what... It WORKS!!!
Try it yourself if the System maintenance utility wont
work on your Mac.
I run OSX 10.4. (tiger)
Cant guarantee it will work under Leopard though - I
would be interested if someone succeeds when it come
out soon!
Anyway, here it is.

Hello John,

Thank you for contacting Hewlett-Packard's Commercial
Solutions Center.

We understand from your e-mail that the Designjet
System Maintenance will not run for the HP Designjet
130. A message comes up indicating that the software
cannot find the printer.

It is possible that the installation of the Designjet
System Maintenance has been corrupted, preventing a
successful launch of the application. We will provide
the steps to remove and re-install the software for
the Designjet System Maintenance.

labeled Macintosh HD) located on the Macintosh
desktop.

     a. Click the Apple at the top-left corner of the
screen.
     b. Click Restart.

appears.

We will now repair the disk permissions. To repair
the disk permissions on the Macintosh, please use the

select Quit Disk Utility.

Before proceeding, it will be necessary to download
the latest version of the Utility from our Web site.
The latest version of the HP Designjet System
Maintenance is available from the following URL:
