Indeed, there is a fan, it sits atop the PSU behind that air filter you see on the right when you open the Printhead hatch. Its clearly audible when the device is running. The reason why there is no complete off switch is simple, the front panel Button is a soft-off button, it needs the emodule to be under power to function properly.
