Teddy, Yes, I specify image size and canvas size in Photoshop.
In PS, I set the image size, say to 8x10. I recheck the image size and it is indeed 8x10. In PS, I then set the canvas size, say to 12x14 to provide 2inch margins. The canvas extension color is background (paper white) and the Anchor specifies a centered image. The image on the monitor now shows my 8x10 image on a 12x14 white canvas. In PS, I recheck the image size and it now shows 12x14 (since the "image" now includes the canvas). At this point, I typically add a text layer and place a title on the white canvas below the image. All looks fine on the monitor in PS. I flatten the file and save it in TIFF format for printing. The problem occurs when I print the image. Margin sizes sometimes are not predictable and the image size/proportion sometimes are not predictable. At other times, the print looks exactly as I expected it to. I suspect I am failing to check some box somewhere. Later today, I'll experiment a bit more and report my results.
