I printed six different images this weekend in an attempt to understand my printing problems better. I produced a variety of print sizes and all image/margin sizes in prints were as expected. The only thing I did different was allow extra sizes for the default paper margins (unprintable areas of the paper). Although this doesn't explain some of the problems I observed previously (e.g. the second example I provided), I suspect that not allowing for the default paper margins previously somehow confused my computer/printer and it simply got so screwed-up that it failed to perform reasonably.
At any rate, it seems to be printing OK now. I think that allowing for default margins in the future will help keep things operating smoothly. Thanks a lot for all of the help and support.
