I have added some more ideas to my trac ticket.

Basically the pattern sequencer is completely usable as is afaiac. The 
main difference between h2 and AL is that AL has an additional interface 
for assigning a trigger to a specific stack of patterns. I will try to 
make some time to work on a mockup of the ui for this feature in the 
near future.

 From a back end perspective it's obviously no problem to have as many 
patterns as we want playing at the same time. How difficult would it be 
to add support for multiple pattern stacks with different bpm settings?

I see this as modifying the xml for the session, adding a new interface 
for the trigger buttons, adding functionality for the trigger button 
playback methods and some trickery in the playback system to deal with 
multiple bpms at the same time.
