Even those "cats" probably "stray" when talking among themselves - where it "leaks" out into the material the manual authors find they have to use. I expect they "stray" also when composing "jazzy" foils for, say, SHARE presentations - and need to cut a few characters for formatting purposes! Misuse of "USS" probably also lends "street cred" in the presence of the customers!
