Well, he did mention missing items, and those could have their own
prereqs.  It could grow into a large tree of things to resolve.

But Howard, that's value of SMP.  Assuming the PTFs are packaged
correctly then you will end up with the fixes that actually need to be
applied to get to the fix you want.  SMP doesn't do this to make work
for you; it does it to make sure your fixes don't back off other fixes, to
make sure all fixes that need each other are applied together, etc.

If you can live without the maintenance that is not applied, fine.
Otherwise plan to apply everything SMP says you need to apply.
