Ron, Brian and Radoslaw, The recommendation of freespace(50,50) is specific to HSM CDS. Someone mentioned secondary extents in their post. There are no secondary extents with the HSM CDS. You can split the CDS onto 2 volumes if it is too large. Is there someone from Mainstar who would like to explain their recommendation monitoring this listserv? For application VSAM KSDSs, I agree with you. Let VSAM determine where he needs the extra space. Mitigate the performance hit of splits, if there is any, with a generous BUFSP value. Dave O'Brien
