Judy, Your MCDS is your catalog for all of your migrated data sets. You should not use FIXCDS to delete records because that will cause your MCDS to get out of synchronization with your ICF catalogs. If you want to delete migrated data sets, use the IDCAMS DELETE command, the ISMF DELETE command, or ISPF delete.
Your MCDS may be growing for a valid reason. You may be migrating more data than you were before. Perhaps old data is not expiring because your MGMTCLAS definition do not specify a retention period. Perhaps Secondary Space Management is not running for some reason, so expired data is not physically getting deleted. As 1 post already pointed out, you should also reorganize your MCDS, BCDS, and OCDS periodically to reclaim CI's within these VSAM data sets. That is just standard VSAM maintenance. The bottom line is that you need to determine the reason for the growth and take the appropriate action to either correct the problem causing the growth or manage it if the growth is due to managing more data with HSM. -----Original Message----- From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Judy Ellis Sent: Wednesday, February 07, 2007 12:27 PM To: [email protected] Subject: FIXCDS to delete records from mcds The MCDS is growing uncontrollably. I understand that I can Use FIXCDS to delete old or obsolete records. The problem is I do not understand how to code. If any one has done this before, could you share the code. thanks, JUdy Ellis ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: GET IBM-MAIN INFO Search the archives at http://bama.ua.edu/archives/ibm-main.html
