The thought occured that maybe somehow you were dumping everything twice. If you sorted the output, you could dump some of the records with IDCAMS and check that.

The other thing you can check is IFASMFDP gives you record counts of each type of SMF record, and the average size of each record. That also might give you an indication of what is happening.

We have an automatic procedure that dumps (and clears afterwards) the
MANx datasets (when 100%  full). The size of our MANx Vsam datasets has
not changed. However, the last couple of days, the VBS dumped file
(output of IFASMFDP) has DUPLICATED its size.

If the source size has not changed, how can the output change its size
so dramatically?

The SMF records types we write has not changed. In our shop, allmost all
space in SMF datasets is used by type 110 registers (CICS). This has
allways been the case.
