Well, this *is* called the IBM Mainframe Discussion List.  Joining a 
discussion group and then choosing never to discuss anything is not quite 
the same as reading a newspaper and choosing not to provide feedback. 

I suppose "lurker" has a somewhat negative connotation - is there a better 
word?  "Viewer?"  "Observer?"

Are people who read daily newspapers but never write a letter to the 
editor also lurkers?  When I access data with a RACF rule that allows me 
read-only access (such as SYS1.MACLIB            ), am I a data lurker?
