1. DON'T FEED THEM. Just no answer, even such as "it is off-topic", or
"stop doing it". Just NOTHING. No troll write a spam when there are no
readers, no feedback.
2. Use simple message filtering. Did the troll used "Joseph Smith" name?
Then use a filter that will direct these messages straight to the trash.
Good points, but there is another factor: sickness.
Our world has become much better at handling physical sickness problems - and
we hope this progress will continue. However, we have not become much better at
handling mental sickness issues - and perhaps we have become worse in this
direction. IMO, we are facing a mental sickness issue here.
We cannot help remotely. Someone's mental problems cannot be cured using
LISTSERV features. However we can isolate the troll. And that would help
him somehow, because he will stop spamming. No one send messages to
/dev/null. Everyone expect the messages will be read - and that would
not happen.
However the only thing we can do is DON'T FEED. No answers, no
discussions, just silences. Despite of provocations.
