Over the years, we’ve seen several individuals seemly go off the deep end as they age. There was a Chris who would go off here on the list about the term USS being VTAM or UNIX, Then Ed G who would just argue anything, and now Dick. Kind of sad really. Seems to be a combination of proving self-worth of having to “know it all” at any expense in the twilight of career/life.
My 90 year old dad falls into that category sadly. I find it hard to be around him honestly. Might be more of a sign of Dementia with these people than Alzheimers. My dad doesn’t even realize he has dementia yet. Thinks he is still sharp as a tack. _______________________________ Dave Jousma Vice President | Director, Platform Engineering Fifth Third Bank | 1830 East Paris Ave, SE | Grand Rapids, MI 49546 From: IBM Mainframe Discussion List <[email protected]> on behalf of Brian Westerman <[email protected]> Date: Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 1:17 AM To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: IBM-MAIN Rules CAUTION EXTERNAL EMAIL This message came from outside your organization. Warnings aren't really seen as warnings by someone who has an issue like that. Possibly it's a Alzheimer or other mental decline issue, that could be helped by someone with the credentials to do so, but I don't think that IBM-MAIN is that place. In the end, I just wanted to make sure that the people on the list will stand behind the decision(s) of the moderator, and not flame him/her just because they don't agree with the decision. That's also why I think removing the ability to update for some period of time is sufficient. I don't think people should be ex-communicated, but proper behavior is needed for people to be able to use the list properly. At least, I think so.
