"Smile when you say that, podnuh" is an Old West (probably just movies, not real life) cliche for "That's usually insulting, but it's the truth for me and I'm proud to own it". Never let it be said this list isn't culturally educational.
For my paying job, I use ZOC exclusively. Kinda hard to run coax from Austin to southern Minnesota, and the z16 we run doesn't have any 3x74s on it anyway. For a few years around Y2K, I worked for a company that did console consolidation, and emulated 3278-2s over coax (as well as VT100s) with a custom card and an S3-based microcontroller. I still have the firmware source for that somewhere around here. Aside from that, though, I didn't do mainframes professionally after 1995, and even then I had a PC with an IRMA card.
