I should have done more research before opening my mouth...RDz does in fact
support
generating COBOL programs with XML PARSE in 2 different flavors. You can
specify
'generate for XMLPARSE(COMPAT)' or 'generate for XMLPARSE(XMLSS)'. Generating
for XMLPARSE(XMLSS) should have worked for COBOL V5. If the programs worked
with COBOL V4.2 but not COBOL V5.1, could it be a CICS setup issue?

There are a couple of APARs about CICS setup and COBOL V5 programs:

APAR for CICS CSD updates required for COBOL V5: APAR PM99301
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PM99301

APAR for CICS DFHRPL updates required for COBOL V5 programs compiled with TEST:
APAR PM96501
http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg1PM96501

If you have alreayd been running COBOL V5 programs with CICS, then you have
already
done the proper CICS setup for COBOL V5, and it's back to the diagnosing
board...

Cheers,
