Apparently you missed the part where I explicitly described not relying
solely on any one entity. And only within the context of extending a
generous 90 day window. (If two entities are Internet unreachable for 80+
days, your own recovery likely isn't possible. ;)) And only for those
vendors that still insist on keys, something I don't think they should do
in the first place.

To my knowledge, IBM's core philosophy is that we cannot assume you will
always be able to reach us in a disaster, or vice versa. Or even that you
will have people able and willing to attempt to reach us. We might be like
Mission Control in Houston while you're in space and the radio links are
down. "Houston, what's the key to unlock the rocket thruster (or to keep
the thruster thrusting)? Houston? Come in, Houston." No, that simply
doesn't work.
