Well, this doesn't completely remove the need for SPXTAPE, but at least it's a start..... Grab this package: http://www.vsoft-software.com/sfb.vmarc upload it to your VM system and unpack it. See the SFB NOTES file for some usage instructions and requirements and restrictions.
The SFB utilities backup and restore DCSS, NSS, IMG, UCR and NLS system data files to and from disk. The DEFSEG/DEFSYS settings are also saved during backup and are reapplied during the restore process automatically. This package was originally written by Chris Langford of Cestrian Software; if you'd like either official support (i.e., commercial) or a version of this utility that can backup and restore *all* spool data types, (e.g., RDR/PRT/PUN) removing the need for SPXTAPE at all , drop me a note off-list, please.
