Comment #11 on issue 1659 by [email protected]: ibus-ui-gtk3 should show local modes of active engines as GNOME does
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1659

I don't know about Windows Store applications.
My understanding is MS IME does not hide panel with key press.

It *does* hide its status window (not a language bar) with key (Down, Right, A, B, ...; not for trigger) press. ATOK and Google IME also do.

Showing the current input mode under cursor is the trend in Japanese IME design.
It is good idea that ibus follows this trend.
I think the reason these products adopt this design is that it can minimize eye movement.

Could you check the following pages?
You can understand ATOK, MS IME (for Store apps) and Google IME have features showing their input mode indicators under cursor.

First, I guess only a few users need input modes such as Hiragana, Katakana.
Now the input mode is important since Japanese and Latin are switched.

Sorry, this is my mistake in writing (not misunderstanding).
I guess most users do not use input modes other than Hiragana and Eisu (latin). When they need an input mode such as Katakana, it would be enough to switch to that mode by pressing Hankaku/Zenkaku and showing the input mode panel again. For such rare case, we do not need continuously showing input mode panel after we started editing text or browsing code, etc.
