Comment #6 on issue 1659 by [email protected]: ibus-ui-gtk3 should show
local modes of active engines as GNOME does
http://code.google.com/p/ibus/issues/detail?id=1659
Probably I think it was fixed in the next patch:
https://github.com/ibus/ibus/commit/8ce7ac6088e440ee539ed3299d9a219aac1c8089
Well, multiple xkb engines users also cannot see a current layout as anthy
users cannot see a current local input mode. So, I think the property panel
should be shown for all engines.
How about:
[□ English (US)] for xkb:us::eng
[□ Arabic] for xkb:ara::ara
[■ Anthy あ] for Anthy
■ and □ indicate icons.
I think you mean input method engines because xkb engines do not
show the panel with above fix.
Not only xkb engines. I think it may be problematic that the panel always
hide texts under the panel for several seconds.
For example, while coding an application today, I felt the panel should
disappear soon. Assume that we have two windows of a terminal emulator and
a text editor. After we find a compilation error on the terminal and get
back to the editor, the panel is shown under its cursor.
We soon start to move the cursor to the line with the error by pressing the
up/down key, right? While moving the cursor, we can not see the text under
the panel for a while. The panel also moves, following the cursor.
This is why I thought the panel should disappear soon after typing keys or
moving cursor by a mouse click.
I also think it should disappear soon after a window was closed.
I'm thinking another usage.
E.g.
1. Type Zenkaku-Hankaku and switch Eisu to Hiragana mode.
2. Type any keys and know the current mode is Hiragana.
3. Click the input mode button on property panel and choose Katakana.
Do you think your request is better?
I wonder how often this use case happens.
For that situation, the time until the panel disappears might be too short.
I guess users changes the input mode by the status icon.
# I will ask feedback from openSUSE users on ML and at an off-line event
held in next week.
