I think propane has gotten a bit of a bad reputation. I know it explodes, I know it is heavier than air, and I know it has blown boats and their owners to bits. But in that regard, it is really no more or less dangerous than gasoline....and many of us have gallons of that stuff on board all the time.
But like gasoline, propane becomes a problem only when it leaks. So I wonder, how many propane accidents are due to faulty installation, poor maintenance, or total lack of common sense? Following these four rules will go a long way towards avoiding leaks Keep the tank valve shut off when not in use Keep the tank in a propane locker, that is vented overboard Install an inline pressure gauge to check the system for leaks Have the propane system installed and maintained by professionals Bob Stockley Sundance #2436 --- In [email protected], Bill Ludwick <capt_bill_2...@...> wrote: > > Good Morning - first response to any posts - I'm an old timer cat 27 tall rig > sailor- My boat (#448) had the original Princess that worked fine - set the > curtains on fire the first time I used it tho and I was too numb headed in > those days to use water - so I blew the cabin full of white powder from the > extinguisher...
