I was originally going to do a propane conversion on my stove. I ended up
stripping it - and looking into the details - made the decision to retain the
original alcohol configuration. After cleaning and lubricating the entire stove
- I put it back together and it works like a charn. Yes the initial burner
heating phase is a little alarming initially - but it heats up quick and burns
hot, Given the amount of cooking I am going to do on board I am going to stay
with the original stove.

Aside from a few stainless fasteners I did not need any parts to recondition
the stove.

Hi,

I am still working on my manifold gasket dilemma, and hope to have the new
bolts tapped out today, but have been following this post regarding Galley
stove tops. I am new tio the C-27 group(73-hull 929) so I am fired up(no
pun;lol) and ready to get into everything at once lol. Have any of you kept the
original stove? Should I be concerned about trying to get it working? I have
not taken much of a look at it yet, but believe I have the p-22a as I have
noticed the stainless steel lid with cutting board on top. My stove looks to be
in decent condition; however being a camper and dealing with the good ol colman
set-ups for years I know that looks can be very deceiving lol. The only thing
I notice off the bat was that the left burner knob is stuck (I have not tried
to force it at all) It appears to have a spring shaft which rotates the
burner/fuel control valve so I am thinking I will need to free it up from
sitting. I would imagine this stove was decent
for the time, and being one whom appreciated "the originals" lol I think it
would be cool to get it working, unless there is a safty reason why I should
not. Any thoughts?

Thanks,

John.

My boat also had a CNG stove and I did not like it for all the reasons John
mentioned. I looked into changing over to propane, but to do it right would
require a vented locker and solenoid valve and switch panel. The cost started
to add up. I got a new Origo 3000 on ebay for $240. I did not gimbal it since
we rarely cook under way, unless the conditions are VERY light. On the average
we use 2 quarts on alchol each year, so I always keep a spare quart under the
galley counter. Cooking time is about the same as CNG. It is simple, safe and
most of all, the chief cook loves it.

My boat came with a CNG (compressed natural gas) stove. While this is a safe
system (CNG is lighter than air so it rises) , I had two problems with the
system:

CNG is not available in Louisville, KY. I would have to go to either
Evansville or Indianapolis, IN to refill the tank.
The CNG tank was installed in the lazereatte(sp) and I didn’t feel I needed all
that weight in the aft end of the boat.

I did not want to have to deal with propane in the boat. I have a gas grill
but don’t mount it on the rail unless we are going overnight and will use it.
I realize that issues with leaking propane tanks are very rare but……..

So, I installed an Origo 3000 and have been very happy with it. Yes, it was
more expensive but I can sleep better. I’m probably too paranoid but there is
always the anchor to worry about.

Hi Bryan,

I converted the original Pressure Alcohol stove into a new propane stove for
under $50 on Aquadesiac.

I bought a new camping stove from Harbor Freight and I installed the burner
eliments into the old stove. It was an easy conversion and the stove looks
like it was made at the factory.

I need to replace the propane galley cook top. Any recommendations? There is a
drawer below so the gimbaled version probably wont be practical anyway...

Thanks,
