Loren,
If you need to re-use what you have, repair any damage to the deck and core 
with epoxy.  Make sure you drill the hole out larger and fill with epoxy and 
then re-drill for the mounting stud.  Make or have made, large stainless steel 
backing plates.  About 2" wide by 5 or 6' long, 1/4" thick.  Then reef early 
and reef often.
