Doug,
When I reef is largely dependent on who else is on the boat. If
we are racing, we reef when the weather helm gets out of hand with everyone
fully hiked, or we are taking water over the rail. When we are cruising, I
usually reef when 1) My wife reminds me for the third time that we are not
racing, or 2) the dog throws up.

Subject: [IC27A] When to Reef the main
At work today but the wind is 10- 20 knts today and I was thinking that I
should set up the mainsail reefing for when I need it. There is only one reef
point in my main. I don't know how the previous owner attached the tack as
there is no reef hook on the goose neck. There is a block, line and cleat on
the boom for the clew end.
So for those that sail the C27 when do you feel the need to reef the main? In
what wind conditions, like 12, 15, 20 knots?
Doug
