Jullian Richards, the South African guy?  Former pro sailor and excellent 
rigger.  Really knows his stuff.  He helped me fix  a dorked up mechanical 
fitting I had on my forestay.

He and his wife are really nice folks.

I have a ”Catalina Friend“ at the Annapolis West Marine store, Julian. He is 
former Catalina 27 owner/racer and is very knowledgeable about all things Cat 
27. Julian suggested I use Starboard, a marine substitute. It is basically a 
plastic sheet, that combined with over size flat washers.

You mentioned that you installed a backing plate. Did you make this out of 
aluminum or did you epoxy in some wood?
