Does water rise above the transom's flat vertical surface when underway?
If your stern us underwater while underway, your performance is compromised
by the drag created when the stern poops.

You need to eliminate weight aft of the keel if that is the case, One
easy solution is to shift weight aft to forward. Moving 50 lbs. from aft of
the keel to forward of the keel is equal to adding 100 lbs. forward. Send a
person to the forward position on deck while under way, and look over the
stern to see if you are creating stern drag. If you merely go aft to take
a look, your weight on the end of the teeter totter will give you an
exaggerated appearance of the balance.

I have a pig of a Catalina and had to add a sugar scoop to correct the
stern's drag. Hopefully you will be able to eliminate your stern drag more
easily.

Hey everyone. I'm new here, bought a 1978 C27 this year which is a step up
from our C22. I absolutely love this boat, but after looking at her sitting
in the water and comparing how she looks to some other C27s in our marina,
I noticed she's sitting a bit low in the stern. I've checked everything
below and she's dry as a bone. Anyone else noticed this?

It's no big deal since there's no water below, and it certainly doesn't
seem to affect performance in the least. Quite the contrary, she points like
a dream. We were out today in a 5-10 kt breeze and were literally running
circles around everyone else. Just curious....
