To correct my overweight problem I added a sugar scoop. It eliminated the problem, but my solution was a personal choice and not one your average Catalina 27 owner would opt to consider. Had this problem for years, and it does affect the boat's performance. This year we took out the old, non-functioning Hot Water heater, moved 2 large cruising anchors, 60' of chain, 200' of surplus rode (we still have a danforth and 100' of rode), a whole bunch of tools and spares and extra junk.... I figure we got rid of 400 pounds of weight, all in the ends of the boat. The difference is noticable... less squat in the stern and she goes through the tacks a lot easier. Secondly, we have added bubble-levels in the cockpit and on the side of the mast that are fixed to tell us when the boat is flat so we can move crew weight appropriately.Seco Dave Robinson _Peregrine_ (http://www.neptune.on.ca/~canoe/) 1978 Catalina 27 #3695 _QCYC, Toronto_ (x-msg://21/www.qcyc.ca) "...the majority of sailors know that a race is meaningless except in the friendships that it secures and the memories that it makes." I absolutely love this boat, but after looking at her sitting in the water and comparing how she looks to some other C27s in our marina, I noticed she's sitting a bit low in the stern. I've checked everything below and she's dry as a bone. Anyone else noticed this? It's no big deal since there's no water below, and it certainly doesn't seem to affect performance in the least. Quite the contrary, she points like a dream. We were out today in a 5-10 kt breeze and were literally running circles around everyone else. Just curious.... ------------------------------------ Yahoo! Groups Links (Yahoo! ID required) (mailto:[email protected])
