I think that the primary mods would be the addition of items involving
exhaust and cooling...such items as raw water pump, heat exchanger, exhaust
manifold/riser-mixer and stuff like that. Minor items would involve oil
draining hose and fittings. Of greater concern it the fact that the three
cylinder engine is of a size used on the Catalina 30 and I think it would be
too
large and heavy for the Catalina 27. The $500 price sounds great. It
indicates that a search for a used 2-cylinder Kubota tractor engine might be
worthwhile. It would be great to hear from someone who has done this.

My boat came with a universal diesel originally but the previous owner
pulled it out for some reason and bolted a 10 hp Merc on the stern. In the
local paper there is an ad for a 3 cylinder diesel out of a Kabota tractor. Is
that the same as a Universal Diesel? What would be required to adapt it to
work in my C27? Anyone have experience in this area? I can pick up the
motor for $500.00.

To correct my overweight problem I added a sugar scoop. It eliminated the
problem, but my solution was a personal choice and not one your average
Catalina 27 owner would opt to consider. If you wish to see pictures of the
addition, visit my web site.... ahsovereignty. If

Had this problem for years, and it does affect the boat's performance.
This year we took out the old, non-functioning Hot Water heater, moved 2
large cruising anchors, 60' of chain, 200' of surplus rode (we still have a
danforth and 100' of rode), a whole bunch of tools and spares and extra
junk.... I figure we got rid of 400 pounds of weight, all in the ends of the
boat. The difference is noticable... less squat in the stern and she goes
through the tacks a lot easier.
Secondly, we have added bubble-levels in the cockpit and on the side of
the mast that are fixed to tell us when the boat is flat so we can move crew
weight appropriately.Seco

Hey everyone. I'm new here, bought a 1978 C27 this year which is a step up
from our C22. I absolutely love this boat, but after looking at her
sitting in the water and comparing how she looks to some other C27s in our
marina, I noticed she's sitting a bit low in the stern. I've checked
everything
below and she's dry as a bone. Anyone else noticed this?

It's no big deal since there's no water below, and it certainly doesn't
seem to affect performance in the least. Quite the contrary, she points like
a dream. We were out today in a 5-10 kt breeze and were literally running
circles around everyone else. Just curious....
