Hi Gary,

 

If you visit the Yahoo site (visit your group - link below) and click on
files and then scroll down you will find a document simply called Tom's
List.

 

 It's a baker's dozen of things to check. 

 

Since it sounds like it is in the water, when was the last time it was
surveyed? If it's not recent then I'd go through the items on Tom's List and
if this is still the one then offer to split the cost of the survey. If it
has a problem under the waterline the survey will be a godsend. Find out the
repair cost and make an offer knowing what you need to do, or walk away.
Otherwise it's a gamble she won't be a money pit.

I am looking at a 1984 Catalina 27 on Saturday. Second visit to see 
her and would appreciate your insight. Deck and spars are in good 
shape. Some cracking in the teak ends of the traveler. Hull is solid 
from water line up. Was told keel had stainless stell bolts replaced 3 
yrs ago. No inboard and has a 10hp motor.
So, what can you tell me to look for?
