I'm perfectly OK with this. Only problem is that I need to get the money to
buy a server of my own, and to get a friendly ISP who will sponsor the
bandwidth or otherwise agree to host it for a payment. At the moment,
however, I'm supported by my parents, and my only private personal income
comes from writing articles for online publications. This is not a steady
stream of income. (I do have good ideas for three new articles, but have to
see if they can get published, and even so, it's still not a job, and writing
such articles is a lot of work.).
So, if someone can buy me a server:
* Lowest-frequency P4 machine one can get (hell eskimo is still a P3)
* At least 120 GB of hard-disk space. I think IDE or SATA would be adequate.
* 100 Mbps Ethernet card.
Note that if some of my articles get published, I'll have some extra money in
the bank, which I would be able to contribute some of which for this cause.
Buying a new IDE/SATA based computer would probably be cheaper than upgrading
the UW SCSI RAID array of eskimo.
It probably doesn't need a monitor or a keyboard, which will save some bucks.
I'll install Mandrake on it, (might as well see if it's good for servers),
and get it up and running. Can Actcom host it? Is there any other ISP that
would agree for hosting it free of charge?

Correct.

Right. Or we can make use of it for hosting the Mandrake urpmi sources. Just
note that like I stressed earlier, Subversion hosting for small to medium
projects is not such a hard-disk problem. I expect that even the CPAN mirror
to take much more space in the forseeable future.
