Look at /var/log/messages* .. The one called messages has logs since
the computer booted (the presently booted system). I believe
/var/log/messages.1 (and higher numbers) has logs from previous boots
(the last, the second-last, and so on).

HPET is a high-precision timer but I don't think that's the problem
here. If you share a bigger chunk of your /var/log/messages (from the
appropriate instance when it crashes), we might be able to identify
where the problem is. We might be able to locate if your harddrive is
also giving problems to your kernel.
