    Well, that's true.. partially.

I do not want to hold RH 6.0 / Linux responsible for providing NOT support
for SleekMouse 2 from PiedP Hardware, realising fully well that there might be
15 odd reasons why the mouse is not Micro$oft compat although it claims to be.
Does not make sense. It is rather overwhelming that an "under-organised"
movement of hackers/pros/penguins has evolved so much support for so much
diverse hardware.

However, the problem *me* is having with RH6.0 was that I have
installed/reinstalled (with different partition combos) using the same mouse
(Logitech) and suddenly one fine morning (all the more fish, twas my bday)
RH6.0 decided that it would not budge. The worst part is that partial recovery
although promised.. does not work.

I am not trying to defend M$ or myself.

However, if we look at it the design of MS-Windows to maintain backward
compatibilty relies heavily on DOS which in turn due to a 1000 reasons cares a
shit about virii. In fact , the concept of a virii(as far as me
knowledge/comp. history goes) was not much prevalent in the early 1980's .
Some techie from Pakistan wrote the Brain virus back in 4. The flaw is not
exactly with MSWIN95/98 as an OS but to two decades of legacy preservation..
and I am talking QDOS and CP/M.

Looking at the newer generation of Win products, ie NT (I do not nkow much
about 2000's internal arch.) viral attack seems to be much contained. Because
NT is an OS designed from Scratch , providing VDMs to maintain backward
compatibilty. In fact NT draws a lot of stuff from *nix and Vax VMS.

My perspective is not to belittle or crib abt Linux.. but only to open a
thread of discussion where we can talk abt making Linux MORE user friendly.

    Agree fully.

Cool stuff ! And I was always confidant that you were an unbiased Linux
advocate ;-)
