could be a configuration problem. on my machine, mplayer is much faster and smoother than windows media player & co. for example, divx decoding and viewing involves some jerks and hitches in windows, but in mplayer the process is totally smooth and enjoyable. what video output driver are you using? i use "-vo xv". if you're running kde or gnome, try to switch over to a light window manager like fluxbox when you want to watch a film. have you compiled it rightly? you can learn a few things by doing a "./configure --help | less" in the mplayer source directory. be sure to go through the documentation thoroughly (in the "Documentation" folder), though you may at first be overwhelmed by it. there are many useful things in it. after installation, do a "man mplayer". i'm sure if you poke around for some time, you'll be able to make mplayer run like it should, and then you won't want to go back to windows at all. - t. p.s : have you installed mplayer from the rpm that is available nowadays? if you have, then that may explain the problem. in that case get the source and install from that to get a binary customised to your machine specs. -- cogito, ergo es. -- To unsubscribe, send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the body "unsubscribe ilug-cal" and an empty subject line.
