I think that you shud try mplayer without X You can try the vesa (-vo vesa) or fb (-vo fbdev) drivers. Also, if you are really adventurous, you can try to use the ascii driver - imagine fullscreen video in glorious ascii chars!! :-) -cheers= sdg
