sorry, it's stated quite clearly in the mplayer documentation that they
do not support xfree86 3.x. you should look for ways to change to the
latest version. check out your display hardware manufacturer's website.
search the net. if nothing works, and if you're serious in your pledge
to use linux for everything, you may consider getting a new card that's
well-supported. a riva tnt2 doesn't cost much nowadays, just around a
thousand bucks or something, and are jolly good performers for that
price.
