I've avoided upgrading since RH7.3, but some of the basic ingredients
like gnome, gtk+, etc. have moved so far forward, that I'll probably
have to upgrade to Fedora Core 2.

On this subject: how resource hungry is kernel 2.6? I heard one of those
vague allegations that it requires a fair bit of RAM (read 256MB) to run
comfortably. This is significantly at variance with my experience (which
is that Linux runs well on "homely" hardware), so I thought I'd check with
folks here about your experience with the new kernel.

On a related note: Debian seems to be a popular (most popular?) distro on
this group. Is there anyone here who's a recent migrant to Debian? If so,
how difficult was your move?

Thanks for any feedback,
Mandar.
