usually internet through cable is provided using one or two channels. so even when the speed of one channel is very high to allow CD movie viewing, the total bandwidth remains constant ( remember, we all watch the same movie, movie on individual demand is still not provided,AFAIK). so as the no of subscribers increase, the speed will go down, as everybody will share the same bandwidth.

You have brought out the point that when we mention "Broadcast" mode as in case of Cable TV we actually mean shared bandwidth.

How about putting some figure in Mbps for this broadcast mode ?
