I share your concern, ...but I have stopped thinking about this since
whatever intellectual / arm chair debates we can have, we cannot change the
fundamental cause of this:

"No Pay parity"

In a family-centric society like ours, family responsibilities and
commitments almost always overshadow one's real passion. Money matters. If
and only if the other professions can provide parity in pay, people are
going to follow thier passion. It is a practical problem. There will be a
solution for this - but sadly it will be after a disaster. Once we have
practically all talented people absorbed into IT and ITES, our social
fabric will fail. That will be the time when pays will become equal.
