I think the variables are much greater with a computer. I wish I'd had Applecare on my iBook. I have a crack in the plastic surrounding the screen and had problems with both the keyboard and the touchpad. Replacing the keyboard would have been about $200, so I just waited for it to "dry out" (heh heh). With the touchpad, I paid $90 for the tech to find out I screwed things in too tight when I took the battery out after the person had dumped soda into the keyboard and then replaced it again. The crack remains. With my G4, I paid for Applecare and have used it so far about 6 times in the last two months. Not just for major questions, either, but for compatibility issues and "what would you buy?" queries. They ran me through the modem setup on the new machine as somehow the internal modem was incorrectly designated and the setup wizard didn't complete. I think it's definitely worth the money unless you personally know a Mac guru who will help you for free.
