Hey David;

I'm no monitor expert but for the straight consumer user the difference 
between the two should not concern you. Anyway money being no object I'd 
go for the 17 inch iMac, not only do get an extra 100MHz but you also 
get a Superdrive which also lets you write DVD's and works great with 
iMovie. Did I forget to mention you get a better graphics card, Much 
better!!! Also one can never have enough Hard Drive space!!!
